Aubrey Longley-Cook with 34 community participants, “Ru Paul Cross Stitch” (2013)
Cross-stitch on 14 count Aida cloth
Back in January I was invited to participate in a group art project coordinated by my good friend Aubrey Longley-Cook. This project, the RuPaul Cross-Stitch Animation Workshop, brings together 35 individuals of various backgrounds, professions, etc. to create a hand-stitched, 2 second loop of RuPaul.
The end result is gorgeous, and an incredible achievement for Aubrey and the workshop!
Editor’s note: this work is featured in the exhibition Queer Threads: Crafting Identity and Community at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art, which you can read about on Hyperallergic.
